How to tag customers and orders in Shopify based on Fairing survey responses
Last updated: October 8, 2025
You can automatically tag customers and orders in Shopify based on their responses to Fairing survey questions using Shopify Flow. This allows you to segment customers and personalize your marketing efforts based on their survey answers.
Setting up Shopify Flow integration
First, you need to enable the Shopify Flow integration in Fairing:
Go to the Integrations page in the Fairing app
Enable Shopify Flow
Navigate to Shopify Flow in your Shopify admin to create your tagging workflows
Creating a tagging workflow
When setting up your Flow workflow to tag based on survey responses, it's important to structure it correctly:
Start with the question: First, identify the specific question you want to base the tagging on. You can use either the question ID or the question text (question ID is recommended as it won't break if you change the wording later)
Check the response: Then add a condition to check if the response equals the specific answer you're looking for
Add the tag: Finally, add the action to tag the customer or order with your desired tag
For detailed setup instructions and examples, refer to our tagging documentation.
Applying tags to historical data
Shopify Flow only applies tags to new orders and customers going forward. If you need to add tags to existing customers based on historical Fairing responses, you'll need to use a third-party Shopify app that supports bulk tag uploads, as this isn't a default Shopify feature.
Common use cases
Tag customers based on how they heard about your brand (e.g., "META", "Google", "Word of mouth")
Tag orders with customer demographics (e.g., "25-34", "Female")
Tag customers with their primary concerns or interests (e.g., "Skin problems", "Hair loss")
Tag returning customers with their reason for coming back
These tags can then be used in Shopify analytics for an in depth analysis of your customers and Shopify data.
