How to export survey response data
Last updated: October 14, 2026
There are several ways to export your survey response data depending on your needs.
Exporting Individual Questions
To export responses for a specific question:
Go to Analytics → Responses
Find the question you want to export
Click Export responses
Make sure to set the date range to "All time" if you want all historical data
Tick Include follow-up question responses if you want them in the file
Note: You'll have to export each question individually - there isn't currently a way to export all questions at once through the interface.
How to read the CSV
Every response is its own row. A transaction with a main answer and a follow-up answer appears as two rows, both carrying the same transaction ID. Follow-up rows are usually grouped toward the bottom of the file, so search by transaction ID rather than scrolling.
Analytics filters do not apply to the export. Date-range and pivot filters on the Analytics page don't carry into the CSV. Export everything for the date range, then filter in your spreadsheet.
Order total: the export includes order total. The older
order_total_usefield is no longer available because Shopify removed it from their API.If the file looks like it has accented or special characters garbled, open it with UTF-8 encoding (Google Sheets does this by default; in Excel use "From Text/CSV").
Getting responses into Shopify (per-order)
If you'd rather see answers on each order in Shopify instead of in a CSV, you have two options:
Shopify metafields (Integrations → Shopify Analytics): Fairing writes responses to order and customer metafields, and you can query them in Shopify Analytics alongside product data. The metafield keys are the Fairing question IDs (the numbers you'll see on each order), and a metafield is created on every order whether or not a response came in.
Shopify Flow: use Fairing's "New Survey Response" trigger to add an order tag or order note only when a response exists. See How to tag customers and orders in Shopify based on Fairing survey responses.
Google Sheets Extension
For a more automated approach, you can use the Google Sheets extension:
Go to the Integrations tab
Follow the instructions to set up the Google Sheets extension
This will sync your data to a Google Sheet daily. You can sync all questions to the same sheet
This is useful if you have many questions and want all the data to sync to the same place daily.
