Understanding Views in Analytics
Last updated: October 14, 2026
A "view" in Fairing analytics is counted every time someone sees your survey. This number may be lower than your total order volume for several reasons.
Common Reasons for Lower View Counts
Upsells and Checkout Flow
If you have upsells before customers reach the thank you page, some customers may close out of the upsell page without completing the flow. This prevents them from reaching the thank you page where the survey is displayed, reducing your total view count.
Subscription Orders
Subscription orders typically don't trigger the survey on the thank you page, which can significantly impact your view numbers if you have a high volume of recurring orders.
Page Loading Issues
Sometimes customers may close out of the page before the survey has a chance to load, causing a slight discrepancy between total orders and survey views.
Technical Implementation Issues
If you're using Google Tag Manager (GTM) or custom implementations, undefined or null customer IDs can prevent surveys from displaying properly. This is particularly common when customer data isn't consistently available at the time the survey loads.
Question-Specific View Counts
For questions beyond the first one in your survey, view counts will be lower because:
Customers must answer previous questions to reach later ones in the survey flow
Returning customers won't see questions set to "until answered" if they've already responded
You'll typically see about a 90% response rate for questions after the first one
Increasing Your View Count
To capture more responses and increase your view count:
Add the survey to your order status page in addition to the thank you page
Many customers who close out during upsells will return to check their order status, giving you another opportunity to collect responses
A large percentage of responses typically come from the order status page
API and Data Export
Note that view data is not available when using the Fairing API. To access view counts, you'll need to use the Fairing app interface or connect the Google Sheets extension.
